The Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar seems to have lost the support of his former boss, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the latter insisted that the southern part of the country must produce the next president.

Obasanjo made known his stance when he hosted the leaders of the Mzough U Tiv (MUT) from Benue State at his palatial Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital over the weekend.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo confirmed his support for rotational presidency, saying power must return to the south in 2023.

He encouraged the Middle Belt leaders to keep up with their advocacy for rotational presidency in the country, as he urged Nigerians not to vote based on emotions that could destroy the nation.

Earlier in his words, the Tiv leader, Iorbee Ihagh, had requested Obasanjo to support a power shift from north to south.

Ihagh said the Mzough u Tiv and the Middle Belt Forum had resolved to support the power shift for fairness, justice and true federalism.

He expressed his optimism that the region would produce the president in 2031.
