Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Mrs. Abubakar, wife of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, following a gun battle with armed bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescue operation was carried out under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, an intelligence-driven military offensive launched after the abduction of the retired senior officer and members of his family.
Military sources disclosed that troops, while conducting a search-and-rescue mission in the area, made contact with the bandits at Tunga village, forcing the criminals to retreat under heavy military fire.
According to a military source, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before fleeing when they came under attack from advancing troops.
“We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding, we have administered first aid and are currently moving her for urgent medical attention,” the source said.
The rescued victim was immediately stabilised by troops before being evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.
Following the successful rescue, security forces have intensified operations across Matazu and neighbouring communities, sustaining a coordinated pursuit of the fleeing bandits and their suspected collaborators.
Military authorities said the clearance operation will continue until all criminal hideouts in the area are dismantled, while efforts remain ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are decisively dealt with.
