History, take a BAO. If it were a British tabloid, that would be a great headline. Biodun Oyebanji did what the Yoruba would describe as ko sele ri. It had never happened. That was the election that made him the governor. For him the bell is ringing twice and it is, unlike the mournful tone of John Donne’s poem, it chimes in joy for Governor Oyebanji. This is a landslide. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State who chaired the campaign council had predicted a landslide, just like Fayose. Spot on. Governor Sani, an engineer and activist, had predicted it would be about 500k votes. He was not far off as BAO snagged close to 400k votes to whip the nearest opponent, the PDP. Not even ADC or NDC had a prayer.
Governor Sani said it was a foretaste of the general elections. From Ekiti and other polls in the past year, somebody will have to present a countervailing evidence or statistic.
The other governors had to rise after they fell. Niyi Adebayo did not try to rise again. Fayose fell and waited four years to catch his breath. So, did Fayemi. BAO had the biceps and cardiac capacity to remain in the ring and give a pin fall to all his opponents. Congratulations.
