The intra-party issue rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State took another turn after governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye alleged that some party leaders threatened him to withdraw from the 2027 governorship race.
Hunye made the allegation on Tuesday when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he said he had taken the matter to court to challenge the outcome of the party’s governorship primary.
The aspirant also rejected claims that he was parading himself as the APC’s candidate, explaining that his legal action was aimed at challenging the process through which the primary was conducted.
Hunye questioned why the party sold him a N50 million nomination form and allowed him to go through its screening process if it had already decided to back Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its candidate.
According to him, the development raised questions about the fairness and credibility of the primary.
He further alleged that he was excluded from a meeting involving former governors and was warned by some APC leaders against contesting the governorship ticket.
Hunye claimed he was told that Adeola had to emerge as the party’s sole candidate.
Despite the pressure, he said he would continue to pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels, insisting that he was seeking justice rather than attempting to create confusion within the party.
The APC, however, has dismissed Hunye’s position, describing him as an impostor and insisting that Adeola remains its authentic candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
In a statement, the APC National Secretariat and the Ogun State Working Committee said Hunye was no longer a member in good standing of the party.
The party said he was suspended on April 7, 2026, by executives of his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area over alleged anti-party activities.
The APC also said it had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, calling for Hunye’s arrest and investigation over alleged impersonation and what it described as attempts to mislead the public.
The party maintained that Adeola and his running mate, Kudirat Balogun, remain the APC’s recognised governorship ticket in Ogun State.
According to the party, the credentials of Adeola and Balogun were uploaded and validated on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal on August 7, 2026.
The latest development has further widened the disagreement within the Ogun APC as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
