The Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo, has welcomed the imminent rehabilitation of Oke-Afa Bridge, Isolo, by the Lagos State Government, describing the intervention as a welcome development.
The state government had through a traffic management plan released on Monday and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the temporary closure of the dual-carriage bridge connecting Isolo with Ejigbo to vehicular movement for three weeks to allow for the required rehabilitation works.
Osiyemi noted that the rehabilitation would be carried out in two phases, with the first phase covering the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo axis, which will be closed to traffic from Friday, August 28 to Friday, September 11, while the second phase will affect the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section from September 12 to September 18.
In a press statement released by his media office around midday on Tuesday, Olasoju described the imminent repair as a proactive and welcome development, noting that the bridge remains a critical link for residents, businesses and commuters within Isolo and its adjoining communities.
“This is a welcome development and one that we must all support. The Oke-Afa Bridge is an important transportation link, and its rehabilitation will undoubtedly enhance its structural integrity, improve safety and guarantee smoother movement for our people in the long run.
“While we appreciate the Lagos State Government for this timely intervention, we equally understand that the rehabilitation works will come with temporary inconveniences for motorists, residents and businesses operating around the affected axis. I therefore appeal for patience, understanding and cooperation from everyone during this period,” Olasoju said.
The Council Chairman urged motorists and commuters to strictly adhere to the traffic management plan and make use of designated alternative routes. He also appealed to residents and community stakeholders to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed to manage the diversion and ensure orderly movement.
Olasoju assured that efforts will be made to create awareness about the planned diversion especially for night drivers to avoid mishap as he expressed confidence that the temporary inconvenience would ultimately give way to a safer and more efficient bridge, urging all stakeholders to see the rehabilitation as a collective investment in the safety and development of the community.
“I appeal to our people to bear with the government and one another. Let us cooperate fully with the authorities so that the project can be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The temporary inconvenience is necessary for the lasting benefit of our people,” he added.
