Paul Pogba’s wife, Zulay Pogba, has defended the former France international after criticism over his injury problems and limited playing time at Monaco.
The 33-year-old midfielder returned to professional football in 2025 after completing a doping suspension. However, his comeback has been difficult, with injuries restricting him to just six appearances for Monaco last season.
The French club is reportedly considering ending Pogba’s contract, with the midfielder understood to be earning about £44,000 per week.
Amid growing calls for Pogba to consider retirement, Zulay took to Instagram to challenge suggestions that her husband returned to football because of money.
She said Pogba’s decision to continue playing was not financially motivated and insisted that only God could determine when his football career should come to an end.
“For all the people saying Paul should retire or he came back to football for the money, let me make this clear, the only one who knows when he will retire is God,” she wrote.
“And for the ones who say he came back for the money, trust me we are very good with money, thank God.
“Social media accepts everything. People can sit behind a screen and say whatever they want, insult someone, question their intentions and forget that there is an actual human being on the other side.
“For those questioning what he has left to prove, let me remind you he achieved the dream every footballer in the world grows up chasing, dreaming to have. He won the World Cup for his country.”
Pogba joined Monaco in 2025 as he looked to revive his career following his doping suspension. His return, however, has been repeatedly affected by fitness problems.
The midfielder’s career has included successful spells at Juventus and Manchester United, while his biggest international achievement came with France at the 2018 World Cup.
Zulay, a Bolivian model and influencer, met Pogba in 2017 before they married two years later. The couple have two sons, aged seven and six.
