Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, to resign over the worsening refuse heaps across the state.
A report by The PUNCH Online said that the governor became increasingly dissatisfied with Gbadegesin’s handling of the crisis, which has left major roads, residential areas and drainage channels littered with refuse.
A source within the agency who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday said Sanwo-Olu’s displeasure stemmed from the slow pace of waste evacuation and failure to act promptly on his directives.
The source disclosed that the governor, who visited the Olusosun Dumpsite in Ojota about a month ago, was dissatisfied with the state of things and declared a state of emergency on waste management.
