Why MAPOLY Rusticated 365 Students In One Day

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has rusticated 365 students after discovering that they gained admission using falsified academic credentials.

The institution announced the decision in a statement issued in Abeokuta by its Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Yemi Ajibola. According to the statement, the affected students were enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes across different schools within the polytechnic.

Ajibola explained that an extensive verification exercise uncovered cases where students submitted fake National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts from several institutions. Investigators found that the documents had been used to secure admission into the polytechnic.

The MAPOLY student expulsion followed a thorough review of credentials presented during the admission and registration process. The institution said the action forms part of its efforts to maintain academic standards and protect the integrity of its educational system.

Reaffirming its position, the polytechnic stressed its zero-tolerance approach to fraud, forgery and other forms of academic misconduct. Officials noted that preserving credibility within the institution remains a top priority.

A breakdown of the affected students showed that 156 students were expelled from the School of Communication and Information Technology, while 117 students were removed from the School of Business and Management Studies. The School of Science and Technology recorded 54 expulsions, while 36 students were affected in the School of Engineering. The School of Environmental Studies accounted for the remaining two students involved in the MAPOLY student expulsion exercise.

The institution’s Rector, Dr Koye Jolaoso, warned prospective applicants against attempting to gain admission with forged documents. He stated that the MAPOLY student expulsion reflects the institution’s commitment to academic integrity, excellence and professionalism.

Jolaoso added that the polytechnic remains dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability and credibility within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
