Erstwhile governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has lost his polling unit in Ilesa, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a decisive victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The APC polled 256 votes to emerge the clear winner at the polling unit, while the Accord Party secured 43 votes.
The ADC finished a distant third with 13 votes.
The result is significant because of Aregbesola’s political prominence as a former governor of the state and a leading political figure in Ijesaland.
His polling unit had attracted considerable attention ahead of and during Saturday’s election.
The APC’s margin of 213 votes over Accord reflects a strong performance at the unit, with its 256 votes substantially exceeding the combined totals recorded by Accord and ADC.
The outcome also adds an interesting dimension to the political contest in Ilesa, which has emerged as one of the closely watched areas in the governorship election.
Earlier in the day, Aregbesola arrived at his polling location to cast his ballot amid attention from voters and political observers. His presence attracted reactions from residents as the voting process continued.
The result from his polling unit will be closely watched alongside results from other polling units across Ilesa and Ijesaland, an area considered strategically important to the overall outcome of the election.
Stakeholders have been eagerly following the performance of the major parties across the wards and local government areas, particularly in areas regarded as strongholds of the leading political contenders.
The APC’s performance at Aregbesola’s polling unit therefore provides an early indication of the party’s strength in the immediate area, although a single polling-unit result cannot by itself determine the final outcome of the governorship election.
