The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has commended the peaceful conduct of voters and election officials after casting his ballot in the ongoing governorship election.
Oyebamiji, who spoke shortly after voting at Ward 9, Irewole Local Government Area, around 10:42 a.m., said the electoral process at his polling unit was proceeding peacefully, with voters, election officials and security personnel present.
He said he had cast his vote and observed that voters had turned out, while the electoral process was being conducted under conducive atmosphere.
He noted that INEC officials, voters, police officers and other security personnel were present at the polling unit and everybody is cooperating according for the successful conduct of the election.
Assessing the situation at his polling unit and ward, the APC candidate said the election was proceeding peacefully.
“Reports reaching me from other polling units across the town and the state signposted that the election was generally peaceful, while security operatives had intervened in areas where there were attempts to cause disturbances.
“INEC staffers are alert to their responsiblitiescarrying out their duties accordingly.
“Security personnel on ground are also attending to places where some individuals attempted to cause trouble,” Oyebamiji said.
He urged voters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise, particularly amid concerns over possible violence later in the day.
He also commended the electoral officials for what he described as a commendable operation, expressing optimism that the peaceful conduct would continue.
On his expectation from the election, the APC candidate expressed confidence in victory, saying he expected to celebrate after the election.
