Sanwo-Olu Not The Source Of My Money – Achimugu Declares, Says Tinubu Not Behind Her Ordeal

Influential businesswoman Mrs. Aisha Achimugu, currently facing prosecution over alleged money laundering and forfeited funds, has come out to reject insinuations linking her wealth to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu or suggesting her legal troubles are politically orchestrated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today aired on Monday, April 27, 2026, the widow of a former Managing Director of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) opened up about her business empire, her lavish 50th birthday celebration, and the cash reportedly found in her home.

In the interview Mrs. Achimugu directly addressed the rumours of an emotional or business relationship with Governor Sanwo-Olu head-on:

“Sanwo-Olu is not the source of my money. I had money before I met him. I started business in 2001. I was already in oil and gas business before I met my late husband [who was the MD of PPMC]. I come from a decent background. My money is not from Governor Sanwo-Olu either.”

On the controversial cash seizure that sparked the latest round of speculation:

“$50,000 belong to my mother and for my school kids… Contrary to insinuations that $13 million was confiscated in my home, what was actually found was $50,000 cash and N13 million.”

She also dismissed any suggestion that she funnelled money to opposition candidates ahead of the 2023 elections or that her current ordeal is connected to the Presidency:

“The president is not my problem… I don’t think anybody is behind my ordeal because God is the one promoting me.”

On Her Business Empire and Lavish Birthday Carnival

Achimugu, who shook Nigeria’s social scene with her week-long 50th birthday celebration in the Caribbean in 2024, explained that the event was years in the making and not a display of ill-gotten wealth:

“I planned my fiftieth birthday for ten years. I wasn’t wasteful and wasn’t trying to show off. Anybody who knows me from childhood knows that I love to celebrate myself.”

She proudly listed her credentials as a self-made entrepreneur:

“I own 11 companies, ranging from oil and gas, consulting, maritime among many others.

Emphasising her independence and character, she added:

“I am not here to prove myself, my character speaks for itself. I stay within my boundary and the only offense I can say is being deliberate.”

Context of the Ongoing Case

Mrs. Achimugu’s comments come amid intense public scrutiny following reports of funds allegedly linked to her being forfeited to the government. Social media had been awash with claims tying her to Governor Sanwo-Olu and suggesting political undertones involving the presidency. She has consistently maintained that her wealth predates her relationship with any high-profile figure and stems from legitimate businesses built over decades.

The businesswoman, who described herself as working “for impact and sustainability” rather than just profit, insisted her only “offence” is living deliberately and celebrating her milestones unapologetically.

As her legal battles continue, Mrs. Achimugu’s televised interview has sparked fresh debate online, with some praising her poise and others demanding more detailed explanations. For now, she has drawn a clear line: her money is hers, her success is divinely backed, and no governor or president is behind her rise or her current challenges.

The case remains before the courts.
