The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced modalities for the forthcoming primary elections of the party.

The chairman of the party’s electoral committee, Barrister Babatunde Ogala, SAN, at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party secretariat in Ogba on Wednesday announced that the party is going on with its plan to explore indirect mode for the intra-party elections billed to come up on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

According to Ogala, the primary election for the chairmanship aspirants in the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will be held at the party secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba adding that each aspirant is expected to come with just one agent.

For the councillors elections, Ogala impressed on the audience which included the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, Senator representing Lagos West, Dr. Idiat Adebule, Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, party leaders, Governance Advisory Council (GAC) leaders, party chairmen across the 57 council areas and all chairmanship aspirants among other that it will be held across the 377 wards in the state and supervised by committee set up by the state electoral committee.

He said while executives of the party in each council area will form the electoral college for the election of chairmanship candidates, ward executive committees will form the electoral college to decide who becomes the councillorship candidate.

Ogala, however, urged party members to embrace consensus in picking the candidates of the party as he appealed to those who may lost out to respect the party’s decision and have faith in its leadership.

“It is a delegate election hence for security reasons, we feel the secretary can accommodate all those needed for the primary elections for the Chairmanship ticket. We are only expecting you (chairmanship aspirants) and your agent, if you come with more than your agent, you will be disqualified,” Ogala said.

Earlier on his part, the party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi told members that regardless of the outcome of the intra-party elections they should keep faith in the party.

“All eyes are on us. We must be remain loyal and committed to the party. This is the state of the President and we must get it right to make the President proud.

“We have many aspirants jostling for few positions which means we can’t all assume the position at once. Let’s abide by the decision of the leaders. Let’s embrace consensus and support the party in ensuring a seamless electoral process devoid of violence,” he said.

Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, advised the aspirants to allow for consensus adding that it is a viable electoral process to pick candidates and ensure peace in the party.

“It has happened to me before. I wanted to vie for the Senate but the leaders of the party said I should rather go to the House of Representatives. Initially, I resisted but when the leaders sent a powerful delegation to me, I had no option than to accept and I was given the ticket to go to the House of Representatives. Chief Rabiu Oluwa had to abandon his own aspirations for me,” Prince Olusi said.

He urged members to help uphold the peace in the party as he assured that the party has a way of ensuring that no one loses out completely.
