The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has rated the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) high over the TETFund projects being executed within the university, saying the institution has judicious utilised the funds secured with timely implementation of the projects.
Speaking during inspection of TETFUND-funded projects in the institution on Tuesday, member representing South-West Zone on the Board of Trustees of TETFUND, Hon. Sunday Adepoju, expressed satisfaction with the university while commending the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Olumuyiwa Odusanya for effectively managing the funds allocated to the university.
He said the institution has made judicious use of its allocations to drive infrastructure and academic development and therefore deserves more support from TETFUND.
Adepoju, who gave the commendation, noted that there are some funds which are not sourced by some tertiary institutions, urging the LASUSTECH management not to wait till 2026 before they prepare their documents to access the funds in time.
“To be honest, I’m impressed with what I saw here. I could see that the projects have gone far in term of execution and I can see that the fund is being used judiciously so I’m okay, the workers are there, materials are on site.
“I’ve given you advice on what to do. You should not wait until 2026. Go and prepare yourself ahead of 2026 so that by the time you need the allocation, you will have done all your background assignments and just get your allocation without any delay.”
On the leadership of the VC, Adepoju said he has been a perfect person for the job, commending the state government for appointing such a professional to lead the university.
“I would say, he is a round peg in a round hole looking at what has been happening in this institution. Look at the projects he inherited, the level at which they were and what they are now. I am highly impressed with what he has done within the short time he assumed office as the VC. If things had been done the way he is doing now, most of the projects would have been completed, but nonetheless, the professor has taken the bull by the horn, and he has justified the reason why he was chosen. I’m only praying that there will be somebody like him if not better than him to replace him after his tenure.”
While pledging his support to make sure the university gets its due funds, Adepoju said he is not representing only one university and or state but the entire Sout-West and that he is always ready to assist all the tertiary institutions to access the funds if they are ready.
He warned that any institution that fails to do what is expected of it would be reported to the Minister of Education.
“I’m not representing LASUSTECH alone and I’m not representing the Lagos State alone, I’m representing all states in the south-west and I must put my best to the assignment I am given to do. I will be ready, and the management and board will be ready to work with those who are ready to work. And any head of institution that is not ready to do the work will be reported to the Minister of Education, who is passionate about the development, about completion of projects, about the welfare and development of students in general, which translate to what Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has in his agenda. So, as part of the agenda, we want us to move as fast as possible. And I’m impressed, and we continue to do it. I’ll give you the support to access the fund for you. The ones that were not accessed have been assessed,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, commended TETFUND for the support in the development of the university, saying the institution has been working harder to make sure the projects are not only completed as and when due but also to meet the standards.
He emphasised that the university has judiciously utilised TETFund allocations to build sustainable, long-lasting infrastructure and empower staff members.
Apart from the infrastructural development, he noted that some staff members have also benefited from TETFUND interventions for their academic development.
Some of the projects under TETFund support, he noted, includes the building of hostel for the students, professorial building, central research building and many more, which are under construction.
