A self-acclaimed leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Abubakar Isah, has recanted on his earlier spurious allegations against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku owned up that his claims were only aimed at besmirching the personality of Seyi Tinubu.
Recall that Atiku previously made unfounded accusations in a viral video, alleging that Seyi Tinubu and Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Ayodele Olawande, invited him to Lagos. He claimed they offered him ₦100 million to support President Tinubu, a proposal he said he turned down. He further stated that this rejection led to his abduction on April 15, 2025.
However, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Atiku apologized to Seyi Tinubu and admitted that the story was fabricated. He explained that the false allegations were based on misinformation provided by one Ladoja Olusola, who he accused of manipulating him to advance his own personal agenda of taking control of the student body.
Atiku stated, “It has become imperative to note that the offer of N100,000,000, which was alleged was made to me to support President Tinubu, was clearly untrue as Ladoja Olusola, who was desperate to get me out of my legitimate position as the duly elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), fed me the lies and half-truths for the sole purpose of achieving his selfish agenda of taking over the reigns of the student body through the back doors.”
He further claimed that it was Ladoja Olusola who had warned him that Seyi Tinubu could order his killing and instruct the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to cover it up.
Additionally, Atiku retracted his earlier accusation that Seyi Tinubu had sent thugs to disrupt his inauguration. He clarified that Seyi Tinubu was never at the venue and that his previous statement was false.
