Barely two days after Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, mother of two-term former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, was found dead in her palatial residence, it has since been unraveled by family members that the elderly woman, though aged, did not die of natural causes but was strangled to death by her Cross River born house maid who had since absconded.

Madam Igbinedion reportedly died in her Ugbo, Benin-City, Edo State residence on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the age of 85. The octogenarian had been confined to her wheelchair from where her maid allegedly strangled her to death, got her house ransacked with most valuables kept in the house by the deceased purportedly stolen by the fleeing maid.

The maid, who is still on the run, has generated mixed feelings from neighbours who could not fathom why she would repay the octogenarian’s good deeds to her with cruelty.

A source who spoke to The Liberation News on condition of anonymity said the maid was always an object of envy to neighbours and those close to mama because of her good lifestyle.

The source also informed The Liberation News that the former governor of Edo State and son of the deceased had vowed to ensure that the fleeing maid is apprehended and brought to justice by the police authorities.

Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin and multi billionaire business mogul married his first wife, Madam Maria in the late fifties.

The marriage, though blessed with children including Lucky, Bright, Charles and Mabel Amadi (Née Igbinedion), ended in the sixties.
