Students of The Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic Saapade have been charged to leverage their energy, creativity, and determination as powerful tools for societal transformation, as the institution joined the global community to mark International Youth Day.
In a message to the student body, the Rector, Dr Sanni Kehinde Oseni, described the polytechnic’s students as “a teeming, vibrant, and promising youth population” representing not only the future of the institution but also the future of Nigeria.
Dr Oseni urged students to remain committed to their academic pursuits, acquire relevant skills, embrace innovation, uphold discipline, and develop themselves beyond the confines of the classroom.
“Do not be afraid to dream, and more importantly, do not be afraid to work towards those dreams. Let your character, competence, and creativity distinguish you wherever you find yourselves,” the Rector said.
He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where students can learn, innovate, acquire practical skills, discover their potential, and prepare confidently for the future.
He encouraged the students to believe in themselves, stay focused, make responsible choices, and maximise every opportunity available to them.
International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12 to draw attention to youth issues worldwide and celebrate the potential of young people as partners in today’s global society.
