The Federal Government has renamed the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, while addressing journalists.
According to Umahi the decision was taken in consultation with the Ministry’s leadership and staff.
“By the power conferred on me as the Honourable Minister of Works, and in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors, and the entire staff of the Ministry, we have decided to name the entire Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is a dream that Mr. President had about 27 years ago,” he said.
According to Umahi, the President first conceived the vision for the coastal highway while serving as Governor of Lagos State.
The ₦15 trillion highway is one of the Tinubu administration’s legacy infrastructure projects.
The project has been controversial since it began, with debates around cost, compensation, environmental impact, and route alignment.
The renaming comes as the administration continues to push major legacy projects tied to the President’s economic and infrastructure agenda.
