The Rector of Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic Saapade, Dr. Sanni Oseni, has made a passionate appeal for increased youth involvement in community development.
He emphasised the crucial role that young people play in shaping a prosperous and resilient society.
Speaking at the investiture of the 2nd president of and fundraising for the Rotary Club of Ikenne Ereke, Dr. Oseni encouraged Nigerian youth to embrace education and actively participate in community service, highlighting these as pathways to personal growth and positive societal impact.
He underscored the significance of organisations like Rotary International in nurturing leadership and community spirit among young individuals.
He pointed out that through various initiatives such as scholarships, vocational training, and leadership programmes, Rotary and similar organisations provide opportunities for youth to develop skills that benefit both themselves and their communities.
He acknowledged the challenges that today’s youth face, including the pressures to achieve quick success through questionable means.
Addressing this issue, Oseni urged young people to resist these shortcuts and instead prioritize education and ethical pathways to success. He emphasized that “Education remains the key to enduring life success,” highlighting the value of perseverance and integrity.
Additionally, Oseni called upon community organizations to enhance their outreach efforts within local schools, especially to raise awareness of programs that support education and skill development.
He expressed Gateway Polytechnic’s willingness to partner with organizations supporting youth empowerment, suggesting that institutions like Rotary could have an even greater influence by engaging students through Rotaract Clubs and other youth-oriented programs.
The event brought together various dignitaries, community leaders, and members of Rotary International, all showing their support for the message of youth empowerment and community development.
The rector, therefore, commended the Rotary Club’s commitment to the goals as he expressed hope for a continued partnership that promotes service, leadership, and development among the youths.
