In a condemnable turn of events and a shameful support for its chairman’s alleged financial recklessness, the legislative arm of Alimosho Local Government has purportedly passed a lame vote of confidence in their suspended council chairman, Hon. Jelili Sulaimon while laughably proclaiming suspension of council vice chairman, Hon. Johnson Akinpelu.
Recall that the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, following due process, slammed an indefinite suspension on the council boss citing alleged non-compliance with financial provisions and untoward attitude towards the legislative house amongst other serious allegations.
The state assembly consequently ordered the vice chairman, Hon. Johnson Akinpelu to take over the council affairs instructing the council management including the Council Manager and Treasurer to accord Akinpelu the necessary support.
However, during their plenary session on Monday, the councillors described the state assembly’s resolution as purportedly unconstitutional reaffirming their unalloyed support for the council chairman.
The Alimosho legislative arm countered the State Assembly’s move, asserting that Sulaimon had allegedly fulfilled his duties responsibly and by the 1999 Constitution.
Also, the local lawmakers suspended the Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Johnson Akinpelu over spurious allegations.
Johnson was accused of failing to account for his activities as chairman of the tender board even when the buck stops on his chairman’s table by the local legislative house.
It was gathered that the motion for Johnson’s suspension was raised by Majority Leader Bolaji Yusuf. Hon. Obadina Ahmed, while the leader of the house officially pronounced the vice chairman’s curious suspension.
The legislative members involved in the questionable decision include:
1. Hon. Obadina Ahmed – Leader
2. Hon. Mojisola Fabusuyi Ayeni – Deputy Leader
3. Hon. Omobolaji Yusuf – Majority Leader
4. Hon. Saheed Adegoke – Chief Whip
5. Hon. Rasheed Semiu – Member
6. Hon. Elizabeth Fashina – Member
