President Bola Tinubu has dismissed speculation about his health following his return to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe.
Tinubu, who arrived in Lagos from Paris, France, on Tuesday, September 29, told journalists that he was in good health and prepared to resume his official duties.
The President was responding to questions about concerns over his well-being, which grew during the latter part of his extended stay abroad.
Tinubu insisted that there was no cause for concern, describing himself as fit and ready to continue working. “Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong.
“Rumours will always emanate from politics, but the facts remain: I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” the President said.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for what was initially announced as a three-week working vacation in Europe. He first travelled to London before moving to Paris, where he spent the remainder of the trip.
His stay was later extended beyond the original schedule, with the Presidency maintaining that he continued to perform his official responsibilities and remained in contact with government officials while abroad.
The extension generated public and political debate, with questions being raised about the President’s prolonged absence from the country.
The African Action Congress also approached the Federal High Court in Abuja over the trip, challenging Tinubu’s failure to transmit a written declaration to the National Assembly before proceeding on the vacation and seeking judicial clarification on the constitutional requirements surrounding his absence.
Tinubu’s return comes shortly before Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary on October 1.
The President is expected to carry out official engagements in Lagos as part of activities marking the Independence celebration before returning to Abuja.
