The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the establishment of five new full-time undergraduate programmes at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 11 September 2026, signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
According to the letter, the approval followed a resource verification visit carried out by a panel of experts to some proposed undergraduate academic programmes in the university.
The visit was aimed at assessing the human and material resources available for the establishment of the programmes.
The Executive Secretary, after due consideration, approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the university with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session: B.Sc. Broadcasting; B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies; B.Sc. Public Relations; B.Sc. Cyber Security; and B.Sc. Software Engineering.
The approval is expected to expand the academic offerings of LASUSTECH, a specialised university of science and technology, and provide more opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into communication, media, and ICT-related fields.
It also signals the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian universities meet the required standards before new programmes are established.
