LASU Governing Council Celebrates Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello At Valedictory Session

The 13th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) on Thursday, 10th September 2026, celebrated the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, at a valedictory session held in her honour.

The session took place at the Council Chamber, First Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

The occasion brought together members of the Governing Council, Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Staff Unions, and members of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, who offered goodwill messages in appreciation of her tenure. The messages highlighted her dedication, professionalism, leadership qualities and commitment to the advancement of the University.

Speaking at the occasion, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Babatunde OGALA, SAN, OFR, commended Distinguished Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO for the grace and professionalism with which she carried out her responsibilities as Vice-Chancellor. He described her as a go-getter and a “teacher of teachers”, noting her willingness to learn, caring disposition, religious tolerance and ability to manage the demands of leadership effectively. He also praised her contributions to the University and her role in advancing ideas with wider national significance.

The Council’s appreciation was further underscored by the presentation of a commemorative gift to the Vice-Chancellor by the Pro-Chancellor on behalf of all members of the Governing Council.

In her response, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for its guidance and robust engagements throughout her tenure. She also appreciated the Principal Officers for sharing the responsibilities of leadership, the Senate and distinguished academics for safeguarding the University’s academic integrity, and Deans and Directors for driving academic excellence.

Distinguished Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO further acknowledged the unions and staff associations for their constructive engagements, the alumni for their support and understanding, and the Lagos State Government for the opportunity and support throughout her tenure.

Reflecting on her administration’s legacy, the Vice-Chancellor said the progress recorded in academic excellence, infrastructure and institutional reputation was a collective achievement, made possible through clear goals, accountability, discipline and alignment with the University’s vision. She emphasised that although offices and titles are temporary, the relationships built, memories created, and institutional impact achieved endure beyond tenure.

Distinguished Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO expressed pride in being part of the LASU family and wished the incoming Vice-Chancellor success in office. She prayed for the continued growth and advancement of the University, noting that the sustained progress of LASU would be the greatest evidence of successful leadership.
