President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rejoiced with, veteran journalist and former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as “a brother in purpose” and a steadfast advocate of good governance and democratic ideals.
In a personal message released from the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu reflected on his long-standing relationship with Osoba, noting that their friendship and political association span several decades.
The President said that their paths into public service may have been different, but that they were united by a common belief that Nigeria could be governed with competence, strong institutions and leadership committed to improving the lives of citizens.
According to Tinubu, the two leaders shared many experiences over the years, including political campaigns, strategy meetings and engagements with the media, all driven by their commitment to democratic values and national development.
He described Osoba as a man whose first instinct has always been service, adding that the former governor embodied the principles of responsible leadership, federalism and press freedom throughout his career as a journalist and politician.
Tinubu particularly praised Osoba’s mentorship of younger journalists, recalling how he encouraged reporters to focus on the human impact of stories and to maintain professionalism in their work.
The President also commended Osoba’s ability to remain calm and thoughtful during difficult political moments, saying his experience and historical perspective often provided guidance during periods of uncertainty.
According to Tinubu, Osoba frequently drew lessons from the political philosophy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the achievements of the old Western Region to inspire younger generations of political leaders.
“What I admire most in Aremo is his consistency. In public and in private, he is the same man,” the President said.
Tinubu further described the former governor as a leader who valued relationships and courtesy, noting that Osoba remained approachable and principled even in moments of disagreement.
As Osoba marked another year, the President prayed for his continued good health and expressed hope that he would witness the further realisation of the ideals they both championed, including quality education, durable infrastructure and responsive governance.
“Aremo, thank you for being a brother in purpose. Thank you for the counsel, your laughter and for the reminder that leadership without character is worthless,” Tinubu stated.
The President concluded by wishing the former governor peace, good health and many more years of service to the nation.
