The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO), Lagos State Chapter, has urged Muslim youths to become active participants in Nigeria’s political process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call, as contained in a press statement issued by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Adeyemo Abd’Akeem, was made during the Muslim Youth Political Summit 2026 held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Alausa Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Ikeja, Lagos, where stakeholders emphasized the importance of youth involvement in governance and nation-building.
Speaking at the summit, the State Coordinator of NACOMYO Lagos, Engr. Isiaka Salami, said the programme was organized to strengthen collaboration between Muslim youths and government while preparing a new generation of competent leaders. Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala, Mr. Akeem Alao encouraged participants to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), actively engage in politics and position themselves for leadership through integrity, competence and public service.
Also addressing participants, the Public Relations Officer of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Alhaji Jubril Folami, praised NACOMYO’s consistent investment in youth development and civic engagement.
During the panel discussion, the President of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Alhaji Barr. Muhammad Oyinlomo Danmole, urged Muslim youths to embrace strategic political participation, grassroots mobilization and leadership development as essential tools for greater representation in governance.
Other panelists, including Alhaji Muritadoh Balogun, Alhaja Dhikrat Matesun-Oshodi and Ambassador (Comrade) Tijani Saheed Oluwadare, stressed the need for education, character, transparency, economic empowerment and active participation in public affairs.
They encouraged young Muslims to take advantage of government opportunities, develop leadership capacity and contribute positively to policy formulation and community development.
The summit attracted a large number of Muslim youths and representatives of organizations including NASFAT, Ansar-Ud-Deen, MSSN Lagos, ASGAT, QUAREEB and other youth groups.
Participants unanimously resolved to intensify political awareness, strengthen partnerships with government and encourage more Muslim youths to participate actively in the democratic process as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
