‘Mushin Safe’ Lagos Police Assures After Suspected IED Explodes In Shoe Market

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that one of Lagos’ busiest commercial hubs, Mushin, is safe following the explosion of a suspected Improvised Explosive Device which blew up beneath a vehicle at a shoe market in the area on Monday morning.

After thorough assessment of fhr scene, police say the area is now secure and no further threats were found.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani confirmed this at the scene after EOD operatives swept the entire market and surrounding streets.

According to preliminary police findings, the explosive device was planted under the passenger side of a car.

It detonated the moment the engine was started, triggering chaos among traders and shoppers.

One person was injured in the blast and was rushed to hospital.

Police say he is in stable condition and receiving treatment.

Tijani said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit moved in immediately after the report.

They conducted a thorough search of the Shoe Materials Market and nearby areas.

“No additional explosive devices were found,” the CP told journalists.

Remnants of the suspected IED have been recovered for forensic analysis as investigators work to determine who planted it and why.

The Commissioner urged residents to avoid speculation and unverified reports on social media, warning that panic helps no one.

He reassured Lagosians that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

Mushin, one of Lagos’ busiest commercial hubs, has seen increased security patrols in recent months. Monday’s incident is the first suspected IED case reported in the market this year.
