Lagos: NYCN Lauds Sonayon-James’ Appointment As Hamzat’s Running Mate, Says Preparation In Top Gear For Youth And Governance Symposium 2.0

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Lagos State Chapter has lauded the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for picking Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the running mate to its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Kadri Hamzat.

The chairman of youth umbrella body Engr. Ibrahim Adigun, at a media chat held in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday described APC’s choice of a youthful deputy governor nominee as a testament to the party’s commitment to youth inclusion and advancement of young people and women in governance.

Recall that the party chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, unveiled the deputy governorship candidate in Lagos on Monday emphasising that her emergence “reinforces the APC’s commitment to inclusive leadership, youth participation, women representation and the continued advancement of Lagos State as Africa’s leading centre of innovation, opportunity and sustainable development.”

Fielding question from select media houses, Adigun noted that the party’s choice of its former deputy woman leader is a morale booster for youths in the state urging other parties to emulate APC’s ideology.

“We want to appreciate the party for showing that the interest of young people is paramount to them with the selection of one of us, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as running mate to Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat. We are charging other political parties to emulate what the ruling party has done by toeing this path of giving young individuals opportunities.

“We want to, on behalf of the entire youth of Lagos State, congratulate Princess Sonayon-James, our own youth development advocate on this well-deserved nomination. We believe in her, we trust her, we know that she is going to unite the youth constituency the more. We trust that she will bring every young people on board and audaciously amplify the voices of every young people in governance. She’s going to protect the mandate of Dr. Hamzat and advance his youth inclusion agenda,” Adigun enthused.

Also, the youth leader assured that the youth umbrella body is ready to host thousands of young individuals across the state as well as notable dignitaries for the second edition of its flagship youth and governance symposium.

According to Adigun, the program, scheduled for Friday 19th June 2026 at the largest auditorium of University of Lagos is to foster constructive engagement on governance, leadership, public policy and civic participation as he urged youth across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the state to participate in the landmark event.

Corroborating the youth leader, the Vice chairman NYCN Lagos East, Comrade Abubakri Asoro and the Secretary, Adeniyi Gbemisola assured that enough security and other facilities have been put in place for the success of the event.
