Reports have emerged that star footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner, Georgina Rodríguez have mutually decided to keep their individual assets separate under a marriage agreement signed shortly before their reported wedding in Lisbon.
The duo are said to have formalised their relationship in a private civil ceremony on Tuesday, with their children and four witnesses reportedly in attendance.
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias reported that the couple signed the marriage agreement on August 10, one day before the reported ceremony, at a public notary’s office in Lisbon.
Meaning of the marriage agreement
The reported arrangement provides for separate ownership of assets belonging to both Ronaldo and Georgina. This means properties and other possessions acquired by either person before the marriage would remain individually owned.
The agreement could also provide a legal framework for the couple’s financial interests if their marital circumstances change in the future.
Details contained in a copy of the reported marriage certificate also identified the couple by their personal information. Ronaldo, 41, was listed as being from Madeira, Portugal, while Georgina, 32, was identified as being born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ronaldo and Georgina keep their surnames
The couple are also reportedly expected to retain their respective surnames after the marriage.
Georgina will continue to use Rodríguez rather than taking Ronaldo’s surname, according to the reported documents.
The civil ceremony was reportedly conducted by registrar Maria Manuel Ferreira de Campos Folhadela de Oliveira, who travelled from Porto to Cascais for the occasion.
Ronaldo and Georgina have been together for several years, with their relationship frequently attracting international attention because of the footballer’s worldwide fame and considerable wealth.
The reported marriage agreement now gives a formal structure to how their personal assets will be treated, particularly in relation to property and other possessions.
The couple have continued to maintain a high-profile family life, with Georgina regularly appearing alongside Ronaldo and their children at public events and on social media.
