Ogun: Dapo Abiodun Names Yayi Successor As Obasanjo’s Daughter Suspends Gov’ship Bid

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The governor made the declaration during a stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State on Monday.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the 10th Senate where he also serves as the Chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Appropriations, boasts of a robust and uncommon legislative experience to the race. He began his political career as a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, before moving to the federal level where he represented Alimosho Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for two terms (2011–2015). He then represented Lagos West in the Senate for two terms (2015–2023), before switching to represent Ogun West Senatorial District in the current 10th National Assembly.

“The decision reflects the collective will of party leaders in the state,” Governor Abiodun said, adding that the APC had agreed on Senator Adeola as the candidate “truly deserving” of leading Ogun State after his tenure.

He further expressed confidence in a smooth transition, noting his pride in participating in the emergence of successive governors within the party.

This endorsement highlights the governor’s confidence in a candidate with proven legislative depth across both Lagos and Ogun States, as well as strong grassroots connections in Ogun West.

Meanwhile, owing to the development, Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, has suspended her governorship agenda forthwith.
