Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have partnered to curb gridlock and poor welfare of truckers.
They noted that the partnership would establish the presence of MWUN and NARTO in all dry ports, seaports and jetties, creating driver/dockworkers’ welfare.
It would also create revenue generation (ticketing rates) per truck, adopt a sharing formula across all affected States, protection of members and others.
The groups would achieve this through interactive meetings, information sharing, building database and report referencing.
The National President, NARTO, Yusuf Othman, emphasised the need to leverage the partnership for mutual benefits.
The President General of MWUN urged management committee members to learn from the mistakes of the past during previous collaboration among stakeholders and to drive the new initiative to success.
They noted that this partnership would be repeated at the zonal and state levels.
