The protracted leadership tussle rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly took a new turn on Monday as men of the Department of Secret Service (DSS) stormed the assembly complex to seal the offices of the contentious Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda and her deputy as well as the clerk of the house.

It was reliably gathered that as of 10 am, armed security personnel have taken over the premises at Alausa, Ikeja, and environs.

Theliberationnews gathered that when Meranda resumed around 11am this morning, she could not access her office, forcing her and some of her colleagues to move to the small football pitch within the precinct of the assembly. As at the time of filing this report, she and her colleagues are still hibernating on the lawn.

A dependable sources informed Theliberationnews that Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda might be compelled by circumstances to step down anytime this week. Though, she seems not to be favorably disposed to this move because of backing for her from some forces in the state, the reality is that modalities of her stepping aside is already being worked out according to Theliberationnews sources.

It will be recalled that the controversial removed Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, has sued the state lawmakers challenging his warped removal as Speaker of the Assembly.

Obasa, it was gathered, has filed a motion at the Ikeja Division of the State High Court, where he is also seeking an accelerated hearing of his suit.

Obasa was removed in absentia by 32 out of the 40 members of the state Assembly on January 13, 2025. He was in the United States of America when he was removed in a situation described as “coup,” by President Bola Tinubu.

The development has generated controversy with members of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, an apex political decision making body in All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos, divided over Obasa’s removal.

Obasa, in the suit, was challenging the legality of his removal from office.

Also, it was gathered that during a meeting between President Tinubu and the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the president, reliable sources revealed to Theliberationnews, ordered the reinstatement of Obasa as Speaker of the Assembly.

The disrespectful reluctance of the assembly members to carry out the president’s directive has linked to the ongoing issue affecting the legislative arm.
