The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter has allayed the fears of bandits’ invasion in the state as it urged young people to go about their day-to-day activities without any trepidation.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the NYCN Chairman, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, MNSE, on Thursday after a series of meetings with the chairman of Ibeju Lekki LGA who doubles as the Chairman of Lagos Conference 57, Hon. Sesan Olowa; the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai; and the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende.
Adigun described the separate visits to the stakeholders as a matter of necessity to obtain authoritative information about the security situation in the state as against the unverified reports and rumours circulating on social media and other platforms.
“As critical stakeholders in the state especially in the youth constituency, the security of lives and property is of utmost concern to us, just as it is to the government. Following our engagements with relevant security agencies and key stakeholders, we have been assured that there is no breach of security in Lagos State and that adequate measures remain in place to safeguard residents,” he said.
The youth leader commended the Lagos State Government and security agencies for their proactive approach to maintaining peace and public safety, noting that intelligence gathering, surveillance, and community policing efforts have been strengthened across the state.
He urged residents, especially youths, to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities through the appropriate channels.
Adigun further cautioned against the spread of misinformation capable of creating unnecessary panic among residents, stressing that false security alerts often undermine public confidence and distract security operatives from their responsibilities.
He reaffirmed the council’s confidence in the security architecture of Lagos State and pledged the continued support of the youth constituency toward initiatives aimed at preserving peace, security, and social stability across the state.
The youth leader also encouraged young people to remain law-abiding, focus on productive ventures, and continue contributing positively to the development of Lagos State.
