Bruno Fernandes Emerged Football Writers’ Player Of The Year

Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has emerged the English Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Footballer of the Year (FOTY).

The association announced the Portuguese midfielder as the winner in a statement on Friday.

Fernandes got 45 per cent of votes from the FWA’s 900-plus members to win the award ahead of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes and Bukayo Saka.

He is the first Man United player to win the prize since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Fernandes has played a critical role in United’s rejuvenation this season, providing 19 assists in the English Premier League (EPL) and just one behind the current record-holders Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

His assists plus his eight goals have helped United secure next season’s Champions League with three more games to go.

Khadija Shaw of the Manchester City women’s team was voted for the women’s FOTY award category.

The duo will be honoured at the Footballer of the Year dinner in London on May 19.
