With an assurance of remaining committed to raising the bar of governance at the grassroots, the Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. David Olusegun Odunmbaku has reeled out his achievements in the last three years in office.

Odunmbaku whose high-flying administration clocked three years on July 27, 2024, at a Media Parley held on Tuesday, highlighted the numerous steps taken so far to deliver on his campaign promises as encapsulated in his H.E.Y.S agenda which stands for Health, Education, Youth & Women Development and social Infrastructure.

The council honcho who began by acknowledging the importance of media in effectively bridging communication gap between government and the governed as well as its all-important role as watchdog noted how he has been able to turn the myriads of challenges and demands before him upon assumption of office in July 2021 around to the glory of God and betterment Ojodu community and residents at large.

With his succinct and encompassing H.E.Y.S agenda, Odunmbaku has expended appreciable efforts across all areas of governance thereby spreading the dividends of democracy further into the grassroots.

HEALTH

In the health sector, the council boss said he has not only walked the talk on his promise of prioritizing the health needs of Ojodu residents in order to make life more abundant for them but he has done than so in an unprecedented fashion to have far-reaching effects.

From rehabilitation of PHCs to putting some on round-the-clock services to undertaking impactful health project, providing financial aids to ailing residents among others.

❖ Rehabilitation of Apata Primary Health Center.

❖ Upgrade of Gbadamosi and Apata primary health centers to operate on 24hrs services.

❖ Donation of N1 Million to kidney patient (Mrs. Hassan Adebamijoko).

❖ Commissioned Agidingbi PHC.

❖ Employed 120 medical personnel (Doctors, Midwives, community Health workers, Health Attendants, Medical Recorders).

❖ Procurement of Three Ambulance and Two mobile Tricycle Ambulances for prompt medical services.

❖ Organized Free MAMMOGRAM for women above 40 years at Ogba PHC in conjunction with Nigerian Physician from America, USA.

❖ Partnered with Eko Club Atlanta (USA) on Free Medical Mission at Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) (Nine Hundred Beneficiaries).

❖ Integrated Health Mission in collaboration with Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke (Fibroid and Eye Surgery for 1500 beneficiaries).

❖ Flag-off ceremony of the National Immunization plus Days (NIPDS).

❖ Free Medical and Free Health Insurance for 1000 residents.

❖ Medical Outreach at Ogba PHC which includes:

• Organized a 5 day cervical cancer screening project for 250 women and malignant cases were treated in conjunction with LASUTH at Ogba PHC.

• Free Dental Procedures for 100 people.

• Free Eye Test/Free Medicated Glasses for 150 people.

❖ Organized Ojodu Free Health programme for accessible medical services and Free Surgical Programme worth 8 Million Naira at Ogba PHC.

• Free surgical programme: 159 minor surgeries like Hernia repairs, Lumps, Vasectomy, Removal of Cysts or Benign Tumor were carried out successfully at Ogba PHC.

❖ Weekly See – a – Doctor Programme with consultants from LASUTH. So the Underlisted Surgeries had been carried out.

❖ Total Renovation of Powerline PHC, Oke-ira.

❖ Acquired land for Mini prototype General Hospital at Oluwole Estate, Ogba.

❖ Distribution of mama kit to 100 pregnant women and Nursing mothers at the Year 2024 breastfeeding week.

❖ Gbadamosi / Ojodu PHC – Council acquired land for remodeling and reconstruction of Gbadamosi PHC the flagship of all Primary Health Center in Ojodu LCDA.

❖ Installation of Three 10KVA solar inverter at Powerline PHC, Apata PHC and Gbadamosi PHC

❖ Regular Desilting of Drainages to prevent flooding across six wards.

1. WATERAID NIGERIA

a. Training of ward health committees on Water Sanitation and Hygiene

methodology (WASH) and sustainability (30 Ward Health Committee & 50 Volunteers from the CDA).

b. Donation of Vital Health Supplies to the Council (Liquid soap, Aqua tab and Oral Rehydration Solution).

2. LIONS CLUB

a. Renovation of Ogba PHC.

b. Renovation of Gbadamosi PHC.

EDUCATION

As an education enthusiast, Odunmbaku has through his numerous strides in the education sector confirmed his conviction that indeed, Eduation is the best legacy and one of the most potent tools to make the world better.

He recalled his strides in supporting the educational pursuits of the teeming pupils and students across the council area to include:

❖ Procurement and Distribution of 700 G.C.E. forms to indigent students from 2022– 2024.

❖ Procurement and Distribution of 900 JAMB forms to qualified individuals within the community from 2022 – 2024.

❖ Organized Extensive/comprehensive coaching classes for 500 JAMB and GCE candidates at Information Technology Hub for proficiency in CBT.

❖ Distribution of 150 Back-to-School kits to pupils (Books, Mathematical Set, School Bags and Uniforms).

Ojodu LCDA’s back-to-school program for pupils of public primary schools.

❖ Empowerment for Teachers with cash gifts of N3 Million in partnership with Adedeji Awolola Foundation to reward performance after undergoing evaluation test.

• 1st prize N250,000

• 2nd prize N150,000

• 3rd prize N100,000

• N50,000 each consolation for other 10 participants.

❖ Upgrade of ICT centre at shogunro to Info-Tech hub with alternative power supply for manpower development in relevant courses.

❖ Donated 1 Million Naira towards procurement of a bus for Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ikeja Branch.

❖ Organized Digital skill training for pupils in all Public Primary schools and Junior Secondary schools students in the LCDA in partnership with Kids Zone Fellowship.

• 2,631 pupils were trained in the primary school category.

• 2,168 students trained in the junior secondary school category.

❖ Procurement of Exercise Books 60,000 copies (2022 – 2024) .

❖ Procurement of 600 pairs of desks and benches to all public schools.

❖ Renovation of a Block of Classrooms at Ogba Primary School.

❖ Distribution of scholarship and bursary award to students in reward for Academic Excellence.

• 2023 20 beneficiaries (N50,000 each).

• 2024 Scholarship Award (2 first class students got N500,000 each) while

29 students got N50,000 each for bursary award.

❖ Recruitment of (12) security personnel to all the public primary schools in the LCDA.

❖ Renovation of schools

• Re-roofing of oke-ira junior secondary school building.

• Rehabilitation of (6) blocks of classrooms at estate primary school (90% completed).

❖ Recruitment of (6) cleaners for public primary schools to enhance good cleaning culture and hygiene in schools.

❖ Provision of (N50,000) as monthly running cost for all head teachers in public schools within Ojodu LCDA.

❖ Procurement and Distribution of 1,500 copies of Revision textbooks for primary 5 and 6 pupils in preparation for Common Entrance Examination.

❖ Construction of School Fence at Ogba Primary School.

YOUTH & WOMEN DEVELOPMENT

The council boss made it known that in furtherance of his commitment to invest in the lives the teeming residents of the council area, tireless efforts have been expended in contributing to the human-capital development of youths, women, widows, elderly and people living with disabilities (PLWD) in the council area to make their daily endeavour more worthwhile.

He listed the programs to include:

❖ Engaged Flux Technology in Training 78 Youths in the following Areas: UI / UX, Data Analysis, Digital Marketing

❖ Distribution of Tools and Working Kits i.e.( Sewing Machines, Make Up Kits, Automobile Repair Tools, Blending Machines) to 1000 Women and Youths.

❖ Partnered with SPEED UP LAGOS on Vocational skills acquisition at shogunro vocational center to train over 1300 resident’s women and youths in various skills.

❖ Employed 250 Non-Pensionable staff.

❖ Trained 60 Youths on Waste to Wealth Creation in partnership with Rotary Club Gbagada and LAWMA.

❖ Inducted and Graduated (36 Youths) on Agricultural Training Programme in (Piggery, Fishery, Crop Production, Cattle, Sheep and Goat Production).

❖ Partnered with KENNOL on Vocational Training of 20 Youths in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Works with provision of working tools for participants.

❖ Organized 3 Month Mega Training Programme skills acquisition and Business Management for 250 residents (Makeup & Gele, Tye & Dye and Soap Making).

❖ Five days Intensive Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technology Training for 53 Youths.

❖ Distribution of 75 free POS machines to Artisans.

❖ Technical Training for 18 Youth in partnership with ETL Engineering Services.

❖ Digital Training for 70 Staffs of Ojodu LCDA on 21st ICT century skills.

❖ Presentation of 20 Million Naira Interest Free Loan and start up grant for small and medium scale business in Ojodu LCDA (10 Million Naira for SMEs and 10 Million Naira for market men and women) in conjunction with THRIVE Microfinance Bank.

❖ Two weeks of Intensive Training on Advanced Solar System Technology and Entrepreneurship for 14 Youths.

❖ Organized Three days training for 200 unemployed Youths in Ojodu LCDA on Employability skills and Career Coaching.

SOCIAL AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

Reeling out his achievements in the area of Social and Infrastructural Development which is the forth pillar of his H.E.Y.S agenda, Odunmbaku impressed it on the media practitioners that his administration has undertaken remarkable efforts on social development as well as similar efforts on infrastructural developments to make the semi-urban council area better. Talking of road and drainage construction, effective maintenance, partnership with state for complementary efforts among others.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

❖ MTN Nigeria as part their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, donated items worth 1 Million Naira to Life Fountain Orphanage (Omole Estate).

❖ Organized the sales of highly subsidized 5kg food items for 2,500 beneficiaries as subsidy removal palliatives for community members (5kg Rice, 5kg Beans, 5kg Garri, Yam etc) sold at N1000 each for the whole package.

❖ Held Breakfast Meeting with Organized Private Sector for seamless collaboration.

❖ Donated 14 mini buses to communities to ease commuting in order to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal. Cumulatively we have been able to transport over 1,078,000 school children and residents free of charge from August 2023 till date.

❖ Organized Zero Hunger Food Relief Programmes for 5,500 beneficiaries through Ojodu Food Bank at subsidized prices to community members across the six wards in Ojodu LCDA.

❖ Partnered with WaterAid and PEPSICO to provide WASH FACILITIES (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) across schools, markets and health centers.

❖ Provision of an Open Viewing Center across the six wards in Ojodu LCDA for over 2,000 viewers during the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) 2024.

❖ Distribution of 10kg Food Combo to 600 Ojodu LCDA Staffs, 1500 Uniform Officers and Staff of Public Works.

❖ Renovation of Palace and Presentation of Official Vehicle to HRH Kabiyesi of Aguda, Oba Akeem Agbaosi Eweobaja 1.

INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

❖ Completion of LSDPC Community Hall.

❖ Construction Modern Public Toilet facilities at Agidingbi mechanic village.

❖ Construction of Office Complex at the Council Secretariat (90% complete).

❖ Renovation of Area Office, Ogba

❖ Procurement and Donation of 5 patrol vans for Ojodu Police station, Ogba Police station, Alausa Police station, Pen-Cinema Police station and Ojodu Task Force Unit.

❖ Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA) in conjunction with OMODAADAA Foundation donated 250 school bags with exercise books to pupils of Ojodu Primary School 1.

❖ Donation of Cash Grant and 10kg Food Items worth N1,210,000 to 250 widows, Elderly and Disabled people.

❖ Twenty Youths benefited from Youth Employability programme in conjunction with Lagos State Government (Fashion, Agriculture, Teaching, construction, Logistics and Entertainment).

❖ Stipends and Transportation fare for 36 youths who participated in State Government sponsored Agriculture programme.

❖ Organized Workshop on Gender Based Violence for Women Development at the council secretariat.

❖ Empowerment of 200 Women through Seminar on Women Inclusion in conjunction with ECOWAS, Federation of Ecowas Business Women Entrepreneur (FEBWE).

❖ Organized annual Isese Day to showcase cultural heritage (Igunuko, Egungun etc.)

❖ Hosted 2 Ojodu Carnivals with Talent Hunts, Cultural Festival and Christmas Carol at Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Premises.

Giving the media practitioners a glimpse into the future, Odunmbaku disclosed that his administration will soon embark on more infrastructural development project to consolidate his strides in the sector:

He concluded by reassuring that he is on course to work till the last day in office to ensure that more impactful projects are carried to further cement Ojodu’s top spot among the comity of council areas in the state and across the country.
