Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, has expressed his deepest concern about the dwindling interest of children in paramilitary activities especially the Boy Scout council.

Obasa made this known when he played host to the a delegation of members of Lagos State Scout Council led by the commissioner, Alhaji Adebesin, on Wednesday.

The lawmaker ascribed the present state of the scout council as ‘disheartening’ while he recalled how it was of major interest to preteens and teenager years back.

How words, “The importance of Scout cannot be undermined especially as it helps children learn good conducts and know how to face challenges as they grow up.

“When we were growing, the Scout was of major interest. We were all willing to join, but that is no longer the story today. I am disheartened with the diminishing state of the Scout Council in recent times.”

He, however, expressed his optimism that the scout’s situation will turnaround for better in the coming years as he promised to support its cause.

” We hope we can reverse the situation of the organisation in Nigeria. Nigerian parents are doing their best and cannot really be blamed where they are unable to recruit their wards into Scout.

“They are saddled with the challenges of payment of school fees, rents, feeding of families, and other bills.

“However, we are hopeful that in a short while, the economic condition of our country will be better for all of us. May Almighty Allah guide our leaders right and teach them the way to go. We will support to bring back the glory of the Scout Council,” the number one lawmaker in Lagos enthused.
