Senator Arthur Nzeribe, infamously remembered for his devilish role in the abortion of the Third Republic is dead.

A source from the family, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident hours ago.

Just as he was slippery in his lifetime, Nzeribe has been on life support for a long time and had for long been out of circulation and especially from the political scene.

Nzeribe, a First Republic maverick politician represented Imo West at the National Assembly.

He was the longest serving Senator from Imo State and was involved in many of the controversies that led to the swinging leadership changes that occurred in the Senate from 1999 to 2007.

Born on November 2, 1938, Nzeribe at 22 hit a mega fortune, becoming a major player in the nation’s financial sector.

Providence also smiled on him and he became so powerful and influential in Nigeria’s political landscape first in the Third Republic when he in collaboration with some other shadowy figures worked the crises that frustrated the emergence of Chief MKO Abiola as president after the freest election in Nigeria’s history.

He was subsequently elected a Senator to represent Orlu in 1999.
