Speaking at the 2021 Nigeria’s Best Workplaces Award Ceremony/Dinner Night held in Lagos, the Country Manager, Good Place to Work Nigeria, Otamere Elegon, said the research and consulting firm recognises organisations where employees trust employers, take pride in their work and enjoy a good relationship with their colleagues.
He said currently, a quarter of all employees worldwide view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Elegon said this fact therefore points to the benefits derivable from Great Workplaces. Speaking on the criteria for the awards, Elegon said the institute conducts a Trust Index Survey and Culture Audit on companies that promote high-tourist cultures, deliver organisational ethics, leadership effectiveness, demonstrate fearless leadership and promote fun and friendly workplace, which the best are given the institute’s Certification badge.
Elegon said the impact of Great Workplaces on the Nigerian economy is enormous, especially as the wellbeing of employees is much better, and employees with improved wellbeing are more likely to be healthier.
According to him, a more healthy body and mind is more likely to be productive, which invariably means an improved economy.
“For us as a company when you have companies that are good workplaces, improving on their policies, practices it is bound to improve companies productivity because productivity is driven by employee input and output and when you have companies that are great workplaces getting employees motivated, those employees would improve productivity and innovation for the Organisations and all of that drives to improve the economy of Nigeria,” he added.
