First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to learn to appreciate the country’s leaders as she called for more support to see to it that the country progresses.
In a post made on her Facebook page, the first lady lamented the amount of hatred Nigerian leaders are subjected to by their fellow countrymen as she wondered how these same leaders are well-respected and honored abroad.
“Most of our leaders are highly respected and honored abroad, yet many Nigerians fail to value what they have because of hatred and the narratives planted in their minds by political paymasters, which have also hardened their hearts.
“They bully these leaders, speak ill of them, demean them, curse them, and even seize upon their mistakes to drag them across social media, ridiculing and mocking them publicly – Nigeria is built on love, unity, and collective effort toward shared success,” the statement read in part.
Her comment is coming on the heels of the United States President, Donald Trump’s acknowledgement and appreciation of her presence at the 78th National Prayer Breakfast held I’m Washington D.C on Thursday.
In his address during the event on Thursday, Trump drew attention to Remi Tinubu’s attendance, describing her as a respected figure and noting her role as a Christian pastor in the largest church in Nigeria.
“We are honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at one of the largest churches. A very respected woman,” Trump said. “First Lady, where are you? Thank you very much. It is a great honour to have you with us.”
In the post, the first lady called on Nigerians to rather than harbor hatred towards leaders come together and work closely with them to make the country better.
“Let us come together to support our respected leaders and work hand in hand with them to make our country great,” the statement concluded.
