Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has been remanded in custody over multiple criminal charges.

This follows his arraignment before a Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday.

Theliberationnews reports that Portable appeared in court to face a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, resisting arrest and causing bodily harm.

According to prosecutors, the charges stem from an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s Odogwu Bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State. The prosecution alleged that Portable assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals during the incident.

The singer is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at about ₦12 million, which is reportedly registered to one Ileyemi Damilola. Two siblings of Ashabi Simple appeared in court as prosecution witnesses, although she was not present during the proceedings.

Also, authorities alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police officer, W/Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.

Portable’s application for bail was refused after the court noted that the assaulted police officer was not present to testify. The singer has consequently been remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on January 19 for a fresh bail hearing.
