Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s deepening internal crisis.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang announced his decision to quit the party with immediate effect. He expressed gratitude to the PDP for offering him a platform to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and acknowledged the support of party leaders, members and supporters at all levels.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” the letter read, adding that he remained grateful for the trust reposed in him during his time in the party.
Mutfwang, however, pointed to what he described as “the realities of the moment,” noting that his commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery had compelled him to seek an alternative political platform. Though the letter did not spell out specific grievances, party insiders say the decision is rooted in the prolonged leadership tussles, factionalism and uncertainty that have plagued the PDP nationally and weakened internal cohesion for the decision by Mutfwang to resign.
