Without further delay, the Damilola Kushimo–led leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isolo Local Branch, has hit the ground running by organising its inaugural program; a public sensitisation on the soon-to-be-implemented tax reforms.
The programme, tagged “The Tax Reform Bills and You,” was held on Friday, 19th December, at the Isolo Community Hall, Akinbaiye, barely two weeks after the emergence of the new leadership.
The event featured an enlightenment session by tax experts who educated participants most of whom were leaders and members of various Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and Voluntary Youth Organisations (VYOs) in Isolo, including the Girl Guides and Scout Council, among others on the nitty-gritty of the new tax laws.
In the words of Kushimo, the event had become imperative to further familiarise the teeming youth populace with the new tax policies and also provide answers to whatever to grey areas in the bills.
“This programme is in a testament to our commitment to deliver on the mandate given to us and part of which is to be the vanguard of advocacy and public enlightenment on important policies. There are a lot of misconceptions about the tax bills, and to forestall the anxiety that has rented the air as we draw closer to January 1st, when the bills will become effective, there is a need to deepen grassroots enlightenment hence the need for this programme. There is no denying that the attendees have bettered their understanding of the tax bills, and it is our expectation that they will pass the knowledge on to other members of their respective associations,” Kushimo said while fielding questions from pressmen.
He appreciated the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Hon. Olasoju Adebayo, for his immense contributions towards the success of the programme, as well as other stakeholders who supported the event.
On his part, the State Chairman of the youth umbrella body, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, MNSE who was ably represented by the Vice Chairman, Lagos West, Comrade David Aladeotan, aka Water commended the local branch for domesticating public enlightenment on the new fiscal policy, recalling a similar programme organised by the state chapter earlier in the year.
Adigun further commended the Kushimo-led executives for hitting the ground running without much ado and urged them to work tirelessly to deliver on their administrative responsibilities.
Notable among other dignitaries in attendance included the Public Relations Officer of NYCN Lagos State Chapter, Comrade Victor Adogbajale; the Pioneer PRO of the local branch, Comrade Paul Abiodun Ishau; Past President of Rotaract Club of Isolo, Rotaractor Fauziyah Orunsolu, among others.
