Delegates of the Accord Party in Osun State have formalised the selection of the party’s governorship candidate with the incumbent governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke emerging as its flagbearer.
Theliberationnews reported that Adeleke officially joined Accord Party on Tuesday evening after quiting the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal crises as his reason for leaving.
Delegates, comprising five representatives from each local government area, were already seated at the venue, awaiting the start of the nomination process.
In a statement on Wednesday morning, Elder Ibe Thankgod, chairman of the Accord Screening Committee, said Adeleke had satisfied all requirements to participate in the party primary.
Thankgod, who also serves as the party’s national organising secretary, presented a certificate of clearance to Adeleke, praising him as a deserving aspirant for the governorship.
The governor expressed gratitude to the committee and the party leadership for the recognition.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” the governor was quoted to have said.
