Former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, is hale and hearty contrary to social media rumours falsely claiming he had passed away.

The false report, which spread rapidly across various online platforms on Friday, had alleged that the one-time banker and former governor passed away in the United Kingdom after battling a terminal illness.

However, Obiano’s former Commissioner for Information, Mr. C. Don Adinuba, promptly debunked the claims, describing them as “false, mischievous, and completely unfounded.” Adinuba said he immediately reached out to the former governor after seeing the reports and confirmed that Obiano is alive, well, and currently residing in the United States, not the UK as widely circulated.

“Obiano has never lived in the United Kingdom. He lives in the United States of America. I just spoke with him now,” Adinuba clarified, urging the public to disregard the rumour in its entirety.

The former commissioner expressed concern that such reckless misinformation could cause unnecessary emotional distress to Obiano’s family, close associates, and the people of Anambra State who may have been unsettled by the fake news.

Adinuba further appealed to online publishers, bloggers, and social media users to exercise greater responsibility, warning that spreading unverified claims—especially about someone’s death—amounts to deliberate misinformation and can undermine public trust.

He reiterated that Chief Obiano remains “hale, hearty, and in high spirits” as he continues to live quietly abroad.
