Residents of Lagos West Senatorial district has showered encomiums on their representative in the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule for her consistency in qualitative representation.
The commendations expressed on X (formerly Twitter) were coming on the heels of the progress of the lawmaker’s latest bill which aims to scrap attorney-general consent in judgment enforcement.
The bill titled “Sheriffs and Civil Process Act” sponsored by the former Lagos State Deputy governor was approved for second reading, last Thursday.
Steering debate on the bill, Senator Adebule averred that the 1945 law is “manifestly outdated and fundamentally disconnected from present realities” as she expressed disbelief on the existence of such law that mandates personal hand delivery of court documents and provides a monthly allowance of 45 kobo for debtors.
She expressed conviction that the amendment would digitalise service of process, streamline judgement enforcement, and align the law with modern judicial and economic realities.
“The current requirement for attorney-general consent before enforcing monetary judgements against government agencies has become an impediment to justice and a violation of fundamental rights,” Adebule said.
Taking to the X Page of The Cable Newspaper where the report was initially shared, netizens who are mostly from Lagos West commended the lawmaker pat their representatives on the back for what was regarded as a thoughtful bill.
Lukman Oluwadamilare Tijani with the handle @IamDrYce wrote: “In this digital age, it makes sense to update the legal system to be faster, more efficient & aligned with current technology. This amendment will promote greater accountability& reduce the chances of government agencies avoiding legal responsibilities. @DrAdebuleIdiat kudos ma.”
He added: “This is what we expect our representatives to do. Go through the laws of the land and modify archaic ones. @DrAdebuleIdiat is truly distinguished as her bills are germane and very strategic. She is a wonderful representative of the God people of Lagos west.”
Another X user with the handle @SonoikiIfeoluwa tweeted: “I sincerely commend the consistent quality representation of Dist. Senator @DrAdebuleIdiat at the Senate to the people of Lagos West Senatorial District and Nigerians at large. Keep up the great work Ma.”
Attaching pictures of Adebule’s previous projects such as mega empowerment for constituents, distribution of welfare package to over 10,000 constituents among others, @Zeed_Ola wrote “Senator Adebule @DrAdebuleIdiat has really been active.”
Expressing profound shock about the existence of the bill, @excellent_629 wrote: “’hand delivery of court documents’, in big 2025?! This kinda law ought to have been amended a long time ago. Kudos to Sen. @DrAdebuleIdiat.”
