Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade has explained why the ancient kingdom is yet to have a substantive Chief Imam.

Via a press statement issued on Monday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, in Ibadan, the palace stressed that Alaafin reserves the authority to appoint a Chief Imam for the ancient city dispelling rumour that anyone has been chosen.

“The attention of the Alaafin’s Palace has been drawn to wild speculations that a new Chief Imam has been appointed for Oyo,” the statement read “The good people of Oyo and the general public are advised to disregard such unfounded, baseless, and mischievous information, as no candidate has been chosen for the number one Islamic seat in Oyo town.

“The selection process is still ongoing, with due consultations being made. The Alaafin urges the people to remain peaceful, as the rightful choice will be announced in due course.

“It should be noted that only His Imperial Majesty has the exclusive preserve to appoint a new Chief Imam for the town,” the statement added.
