The Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA in Lagos State has been thrown into mourning as the newly elected Councillor for Ward C3, Hon. Zainab Shotayo passes away.
The deceased, as gathered by Theliberationnews, breathed her last on Monday night owing to an undisclosed illness.
Her death is coming barely a week after her counterpart in Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oluwakemi Rufai kicked the bucket.
Shotayo’s death has elicited heartfelt condolences from notable individuals and stakeholders alike in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA and beyond with the council chairman, Hon. Seyi Jakande ordering that flags within hand around the council be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
In a personally signed condolence message, Jakande expressed sadness over the death of the 29-year-old councilor.
The statement read, “Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of Hon. Zainab Aseshewa Shotayo, Councillor for Ward C3 and the only female member of the 6th Legislative House. Hon. Shotayo, who also served as the Chief Whip, succumbed to a brief illness yesterday, August 18, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to our community.
“Hon. Zainab Shotayo was not only the youngest member of the Council but also an inspiring figure who embodied resilience and leadership. She was not just a representative; she was a role model for many, especially young women aspiring to take up leadership roles in our community.
“Her commitment to public service and her pursuit of progress for the constituents of Ward C3 and the greater Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to work alongside her for the short time.
“On behalf of the Council and the entire Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye community, I extend our deepest condolences to Hon. Shotayo’s family, friends and the entire Ward C3 during this difficult time. We grieve with you as we honour her contributions and the profound impact she made within our community. We share in your grief and stand in solidarity with you as we navigate this irreparable loss together.

Also a condolence message posted by the National Youth Council of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye local branch on its Facebook page reads:
“The NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch consoles with the family of Hon. Zainab Shotayo on her painful passing.
“We are deeply saddened, for she was a youth and a rising star among us. We pray Almighty God grant her eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“Our prayers are with her family, her ward, and the entire LCDA at this difficult time.”
