The Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The letter dated Monday 14th July was directed to the Chairman of the PDP in his Jada 1 Ward, Jada LGA, Adamawa State, with Atiku describing his decision to part ways with the party as heartbreaking having been one of its founding fathers.

He hinged his decision to exit on irreconcilable differences and a compromise from the party’s founding principles.

“Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a Presidential candidate twice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life,” Atiku wrote.

“As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.”

“I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for,” he noted.

He concluded by expressing his goodwill for the party and its leadership. “Thank you once again for the opportunities and support,” the statement concluded.
