The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE has called for fiscal incentives including tax rebates in order to promote the sustainability of the media in the market place.
Mr Eze Anaba, the just re-elected president of the NGE made the call at the Media Sustainability Conference jointly organised by the Daily Trust Foundation and Media Development Investment Fund, MDIF.
Represented by the guild’s publicity secretary, Charles Kalu, Anaba said the tax rebates for Nigerian media outfits will help the industry in its long term objective of providing the right dynamics for the promotion of egalitarian democracy.
He said: “The NGE supports programs like this, recognizing the importance of discussing critical issues shaping the future of journalism and media sustainability.
“The Nigerian Guild of Editors has long advocated for support for the media, including tax rebates, import duty waivers, and treating media products as educational materials.
“The media has played a vital role in entrenching democracy, promoting good governance, and fostering peace and unity in Nigeria.
“We believe that with the right support, the media can continue to thrive and make significant contributions to our society.
“We are confident that the insights and discussions at this conference will contribute to the growth and resilience of the media industry,” Anaba said following the call on tax rebates for Nigerian media organisations.
GWG.ng reports that the conference which continues on Thursday is being attended by some of the leading lights in the Nigerian media.
The conference was earlier opened by the minister of Information Mohammed Idris and is being steered by former NTA director, Eugenia Abu.
