The President of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem, SAN, has mourned the passing of Nigeria’s longest-serving monarch, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.

In a condolence message, Kazeem noted that the religious society received the passing of the late monarch who passed away on Sunday, 13th July 2025, with profound sense of National and communal loss. He described late Awujale as a towering figure in Nigeria’s
traditional and sociopolitical landscape.

“The Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria received with deep sorrow and a profound sense
of national and communal loss the news of the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr)
Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of
Ijebuland.

“The late Awujale was not only a revered monarch but also a towering figure in Nigeria’s
traditional and sociopolitical landscape. A man of immense wisdom, courage, and foresight,
Oba Sikiru Adetona served his people with unwavering dedication for over six decades,
making him one of the longest-reigning monarchs in Nigerian history.

“Throughout his reign, he championed the cause of justice, good governance, education,
and religious tolerance. His support for progressive ideals and his deep commitment to the
upliftment of Ijebuland and the Yoruba nation at large earned him respect across Nigeria
and beyond. As a faithful Muslim and friend of the Ummah, the Awujale remained a
symbol of dignity and leadership rooted in cultural values and spiritual integrity.

“We in the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria join the royal family, the good people of
Ijebuland, and all Nigerians in mourning this monumental loss. We pray that Almighty

“Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

“May Allah comfort his family, the Ijebu Traditional Council, and all those affected by this
great loss. The Awujale’s legacy of service, truth, and devotion to his people will remain
evergreen in our hearts.
