For the tenth consecutive year, the illustrious Laguda Family in Lagos has organised its annual Ramadan Tafsir program.
The event held at the iconic Oluwole Ogba Central Mosque, Ogba Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday brought together various generations of the family under the auspices of the Laguda Descendants Union in Nigeria and diaspora.
Doing Justice to the first topic: ‘Islamic Perspective and Family and Tolerance’, the Chief Imam of Oluwole Ogba Central Mosque, Sheikh Imam Sa’adulah Muhammed Bello explained that family is as a fate which no one has power over.
He explained that being born into a family is divine; it’s largely to fate, and it’s expected of one to learn to love, understand and manage every member of the one’s family.
The cleric reiterated that disputes as often caused by misunderstanding, and misconception among others is inevitable amongs family but one must be patient and devoted to Allah in order to learn to resolve family dispute.
He added that anyone who sever kinship ties, according to the Holy Quran will not be shown mercy by Allah on earth and hereafter as he urged for continued love and tolerance from one another.
Delivering his lecture on the topic: “Crimes and Challenges of youth in our society,” the second Gues lecturer, Prof. Abdul Kabir Paramole began by corroborating Sheikh Bello’s lecture emphasing that family is an important unit of the society.
Prof. Paramole added the the rise in crime and criminality in the society is as a result of the shortcomings of families as caused by poor parental teachings and guidiance.
Referencing Quran 66:6, the university don emphasized the importance of protecting one’s family and the need for parents to instill morals in their children.
He added that for crimes and criminality to be eradicated or brought to the barest minimum, parents must instill the tenets of Islam (Ibadah), virtues of respect, compassion, love good neighborliness, contentment, truthfulness and knowledge about Allah into their children.
Paramole concluded by commended the family for putting up the program adding that it is one of the ways to strengthen kinship ties as he urged other families to learn from the Lagudas.
Speaking on the impetus behind the yearly event, Alhaji Miftau Bolaji Are made it known that, indeed, the program was to bring the ever-burgeoning family together and solidify the ties.
“It is hinged on the fact that we want to bring the descendants of Laguda together. We want to keep and uplift the name; it’s a big name in Lagos. The efforts of this present group is to bring everyone together.”
He, however, charged the attendees present to disseminate the lecturers’ teaching further to other members of the family.
“I will implore the organizers to make sure that they disseminate the lessons taught by the lectures; the presentations, maybe in video form and send send it to everybody even their friends because the key things that were said by the Imam was that he emphasized the importance of family.”
The event also featured Fidau prayer for the family’s patriarch, Alhaji Chief AbdulRazak Alade Laguda; former Baba Adinni of Lagos Central Mosque and Otun Baba Eko of Lagos as well other departed members of the family.
