Former president Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday celebrated his successor President Bola Tinubu for his 73rd birthday, lauding his leadership of the nation and the APC.

While sending his compliments over the phone, Buhari expressed delight in his bond with Tinubu emphasizing that he is proud of their association.

During the phone call on Friday, Buhari assured Tinubu that both he and his family were praying for his long life, good health, and a successful presidency.

“When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Buhari told Tinubu.

The immediate past president also acknowledged the role Tinubu and other party leaders played in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He expressed gratitude for their efforts in helping him secure two terms as president after previous unsuccessful attempts. He also praised their contributions in ensuring another APC-led administration under Tinubu.

“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention, and a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally, and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju.”

Looking back on APC’s victory in 2015, Buhari emphasized that the party was given a mandate to build a better future for Nigerians, particularly the less privileged. He expressed satisfaction that this vision continues to be pursued.

“When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor get opportunities for a better future, and I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory of all those who wish the country’s good.”

In addition to his birthday wishes, Buhari also extended his greetings to Tinubu, his family, and the entire nation, wishing them a successful completion of Ramadan and a joyous Eid celebration.
